I hear the WWE are going to have a pay per view super show at the MCG this year, a week after the AFL Grand Final. There are around 100,000 seats at the MCG, but there will be another 20,000 on the ground around the wrestling ring. They could get a crowd of 120,000 people there! MASSIVE!

WWE Super Show-Down confirmed for MCG on Saturday October 6, Triple H v The Undertaker to headline

WWE Superstar Triple H is set to wrestle at the MCG.

THE worst-kept secret in pro wrestling has been confirmed, with WWE confirming it will run an event at the MCG called the Super Show-Down.

The show, to be broadcast live on the WWE Network, will be held on Saturday October 6, the week after the AFL Grand Final.

Headling will be John Cena, who is becoming a less frequent fixture in WWE due to his burgeoning acting career, and Ronda Rousey, who famously lost at UFC 193 in Melbourne and is now a weekly fixture in the WWE women’s division after starring at WrestleMania 34 in April.

One match has been confirmed, with Triple H to face The Undertaker for what WWE says will be the final time ever.

Triple H will face The Undertaker for the final time ever.

The Undertaker rarely wrestles now due to his age, but famously faced Triple H three times at WrestleMania - at X-Seven, XXVII and XXVIII.

WWE boss Vince McMahon confirmed that Shawn Michaels, The Big Show, Kurt Angle would be in attendance, as well as Australian women’s tag team Peyton Royce and Billie Kay.

Both Royce and Kay are from Sydney. Melburnian Buddy Murphy is currently featuring on WWE’s cruiserweight brand, 205 Live.

A crowd of over 100,000 people could attend the MCG event, given the ground’s capacity and the likelihood seats would take up much of the surface, which could then make it the largest crowd to ever attend a WWE show.

The largest crowds in pro wrestling history were for a two-night tour of North Korea in 1995 by US-based WCW and Japan-based NJPW, with claimed attendances of 190,000 and 150,000 for those shows at Pyongyang’s May Day Stadium.

The biggest crowd in WWE history is 93,730 for WrestleMania 32 at Dallas’ AT&T Stadium. The company claims 101,763 attended that event, but McMahon has since admitted that number included every person in the building, not just paying customers.

The Undertaker (top) is one of the WWE’s biggest stars.

It is unclear whether the show will be considered as a regular WWE pay per view event, or just a one-off special. If the former, major storylines could feature at the show.

The WWE held a similar large stadium event in Saudi Arabia earlier this year, called The Greatest Royal Rumble, which featured big names (due to the show being paid for by the Saudi Arabian government) and did continue several storylines, if not to the degree of a normal WWE show. That event also did not feature women in any capacity.

Local wrestling promotions are expected to take advantage of the influx of fans from around the country, with popular group Melbourne City Wrestling already announcing a show for Friday October 5.

WWE Super Show-Down tickets go on sale for the general public at 10AM AEST on Thursday, June 28 via ticketek.com.au. A pre-sale for Telstra customers begins Friday, June 22 at noon AEST and runs until Tuesday, June 26 at 5pm AEST.

at least holding it in Australia the ladies get to put on a performance unlike the male only Saudi special.
It should be a good show but with so many "feminist" issues in Victoria at the moment the WWE may have opposition from the fun police.

I think he wrestled before my time. I started watching the WWE weekly since the mid 1990s - it was WWF back then. Do you watch it now???

I just ordered the WWE Super Show-Down pay per view event on Foxtel! They will get a massive crowd there tonight at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It is the first WWE event in Australia that people around the world will be able to watch live on tv, computer, etc. I can't wait for the Undertaker v Triple H match! :)

    Starts tonight at 7pm.
    Pre-show at 6.30pm

It wasnt "fixed" SJ. It was scripted because its called sports entertainment with the emphasis on entertainment.
If it suckered you in to think it was real then the actors were doing their job.
You do have to admit it can be more entertaining than....
desperate housewives or the plethora of reality shows they are making because they seem to have run out of ideas,

They even had "world Championship" wrassling on channel nein in Sydney back in the B/W broadcasting days.
A lot of American wrestler would do stints out here like Andre, red bastein. king Curtis. Killer Kowalski, skull murphy and brute Bernard or even Mark Lewin.
Some were "heels" like bulldog brower and others the guy in the white hat but it was all fun and a lot of blood flowed in the name of entertainment.
They held the big shows at the old Stadium in rushcutters bay and later years at places like the Hordern Pavillion.

That doyen of St George fans the skull used to go to these shows all the time when he wasn't skate boarding around Kogarah.

The industry really took off when Vince Mcmahon took over from his dad so no wonder he is a billionaire.
